Be respectful - we all have different opinions

Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on Eckhart Tolle

Last night I was facilitating a focus group. The aim being to learn the lessons from a project to introduce sea moss farming as a sustainable livelihood. At the end of the evening the main issue tabled was "Communication" I asked them what does "An Issue with Communication" mean.

It seemed like a tough question at the moment.

Communication - what is healthy communication?

healthy communication means having the courage to say what you feel, and knowing how to take care of yourself around that feeling, regardless of how your the other person responds. This is much easier said than done, and it takes a lot of practice!

There was not a situation that people in the organisation were side talking, but not talking to each other as a team.
There was also a situation where the way people communicated was either out of anger and frustration or in the way they wanted to and others were not versed in it- for example - using technology rather than face to face.

What I learnt from the interaction is:

1.  A safe space for communication and sharing of views help in supporting how views are exchanged

2. People want to be seen and heard and feel valued.

3. Everyone will not agree with you and that is okay

4. Knowing your why - your why motivates you

5. Be respectful - we all have different opinions

6. Focus forward

Peace
