Responsibility

Everything we experience—no matter how unpleasant—comes into our lives to teach us something. —Iyanla Vanzant

Responsibility! Some lessons are tougher than others. Being here is an experience like no other I have ever had. Truth be told I was under the impression that a successful life is going to school, getting good grades and qualification, having a nice car, money to spend, a good job, a house on the hill with the husband and kids. That was my perception of success. And then life happened! I’ve learnt that having all that without a purpose and service is empty and most times represented my ego running amok! Life happens and all the material things can disappear in a minute and when life happens you cannot turn to the piece of paper the degree is on to provide answers or comfort. This morning I was up moving tree logs by hand with these women who were building a shed to sell food. I, the rookie, there saying why we got to move these heavy tree, where are the men, why the Government not providing services, blah blah blah , blame and projection and bringing my own limited vision, not providing a solution is adding to the problem. Anyways, responsibility and honor.

So what did I learn today?
I’ve learnt that I have a responsibility to myself first and foremost to live on purpose, to be of service when I have experienced blessings and opportunities, I’ve learnt that I have a responsibility to honor myself because every single thing you do will come from that place, down to the food you eat, the people you spend time and even the job you have. I’ve learnt that I have a responsibility to honor the people who came before me who paved the way for me to do what I do, go where I go unhindered and free. I have a responsibility to ensure that their toil and sacrifice was not in vain. I have a responsibility to be my highest self without judgement and condemnation of those who do not agree with the path I take!   I’ve learnt that if you are sitting around waiting for anyone to save you, to fix you, you are wasting your time because only you have the power to take responsibility to move your life forward. The sooner you get that, the sooner your life gets into gear.Peace!!!
